ABOUT THIS WEBSITE

In summer 1940, fast, hard-hitting German Panzer forces caused the quick collapse of France and demonstrated the offensive capabilities of the tank. This caused a sense of urgency, and stopping of tanks became one of the most serious problems facing the United States Army. The 818th Tank Destroyer Battalion (less companies “B” and “C”) was activated on 15 December, 1941 at Fort Sill Oklahoma. On 6 March 1942 companies “B” and “C” were activated. After extensive training at various locations, the 818th left for Belfast, North Ireland on 21 October, 1943. The 818th was composed of 600 men and officers and 36 M-10 Tank Destroyers. The 2006 818th Reunion held in Austin, TX was a great success. A total of 81 persons attended all or parts of the activities.

-Joseph G. Bonifazio of Headquarters Company passed away 29 July 2006 at age 91.
-Nicholas Paulish (Company A) passed away on 3/29/06
-Dempsey (Joe Barge) Colasacco entered heaven last Saturday, April 1st, 2006
